【1月】平和の実現のために出向いて行く共同体 －受け入れ合い、支え合う共同体から、派遣される共同体へ－

2025年、私たちは全世界の教会とともに聖年を祝い、「希望の巡礼者」というテーマのもとで歩みを新たにしてきました。この一年、希望を抱き、希望をもたらす巡礼者としての私たちの生活の在り方について学びながら、共同体として巡礼を行いました。一年の歩みを通して学んだことは、巡礼者とは立ち止まる人ではなく、目的地に向かって歩み続ける人であり、安心できる場所にとどまるのではなく、希望を携えて道を進む者だということでした。
さらに、2025年はアシジの聖フランシスコが「太陽の歌」を作ってから800周年という特別な年でもありました。「太陽の歌」は、自然への賛美の詩であると同時に、和解と平和の霊性を歌い上げた賛歌であるということを学び、聖フランシスコの精神を深めるとともに、自然に対する私たちの態度を見直す年でもありました。聖フランシスコは「赦しをもって耐え忍ぶ人々」を幸いな者として歌います。それは、平和が自然に生まれるものではなく、関係のただ中へ踏み出し、和解を選び取る行為によって実現されることを示しています。フランシスコ自身、敵対する者や異文化の人々のもとへも恐れずに出向き、平和の道具として生きました。
聖年の恵みを受けて、私たち峰教会はどのようにふるまうべきかと考えたとき、巡礼者が「いつも神を信じて歩む」姿勢からヒントを受けました。これまで私たちの教会は、一生懸命に生きてきた「受け入れ合い、支え合う、開かれた共同体」というスローガンを大切にしてきましたが、さらに「全世界に行きなさい」と招かれるキリストのことばに照らされ、キリストに派遣されていく共同体となることを願い、「平和の実現のために出向いて行く共同体」というスローガンに新たにしたいと思います。
「受け入れ合い、支え合う、開かれた共同体」として、互いの違いを尊重し、弱さを抱えながらも共に生きる姿勢そのものが教会の土台であることを悟った私たちは、共同体を内側から癒し、信頼と交わりを育ててきました。今こそ、「内に築かれた交わりを、外へと開いていくこと」を目指し、平和のために働く教会になりましょう。このスローガンは、受け入れ合い、支え合ってきた歩みを否定するものではありません。むしろ、その歩みが成熟し、使命として実を結ぶ段階に入ったことを示しています。
教皇が聖年を通して示しているように、希望とは現実から目を背けることではなく、困難のただ中で神に信頼して歩む力です。分断や対立、不安が広がる現代社会において、私たちは平和を携えて人々のもとへ出向いて行く存在になっていくことこそが、神様のみ心であると信じます。
平和は神様の御計画であり、贈り物です
平和は、人間が努力だけで作り出す理想や目標にとどまるものではありません。聖書は、神様ご自身が「平和の神」（ローマ15・33）であり、世界と人類を平和へと導く御計画をもっておられることを伝えています。イエス・キリストの誕生のとき、天使たちは「地には平和」（ルカ2・14）と告げました。それは、神様がご自分の愛によって、人と人との間、そして神と人との間に和解と平和をもたらそうとしておられるしるしでした。
同時に、平和は神様からの賜物（贈り物）です。復活されたイエスは弟子たちに「あなたがたに平和があるように」と語り、ご自身の平和を与えられました（ヨハネ20・19）。この平和は、争いがない状態だけでなく、困難の中でも神に信頼して生きることのできる心の平安を含んでいます。しかし、この贈り物は受け取るだけで終わるものではありません。神様の平和を受けた私たちは、その平和を生き、行い、分かち合うように招かれています。赦しを選ぶこと、対話を大切にすること、苦しむ人のもとへ出向くこと――これらは、神様の御計画に協力し、平和の贈り物をこの世界に具体化していく歩みです。平和は、神様の御計画であり、そして私たちを通して広げられていく神様からの贈り物なのです。「第59回世界平和の日」に際しての教皇レオ14世のメッセージ「あなたがたに平和があるように」の中で、現代世界に対して「武器のない平和、武器を取り除く平和」に向けて歩むよう呼びかけられています。
平和を与えるために平和を保つことの必要性：
2026年世界平和の日のメッセージの中で、教皇レオ14世は聖アウグスティヌスの言葉を引用し、「他の人々を平和に向けて引き寄せたいなら、まずあなたがたが平和をもちなさい。何よりもまず、堅固に平和を保ちなさい。他の人々を燃え立たせるためには、あなたがたが自分のうちに平和の火をもたなければならない」と記しています。平和は、他者に向けて与えられる前に、まず自分の内に保たれるべき恵みです。心が乱れ、不安や怒りに満たされているとき、私たちは真の意味で平和を分かち合うことができません。だからこそ、平和を与える使命を生きるためには、日々、神から与えられる平和のうちにとどまることが必要です。イエス・キリストは、「わたしはあなたがたに平和を与える」（ヨハネ14・27）と言われました。この平和は、状況が整っているときだけに感じられるものではなく、困難や対立のただ中にあっても、神に信頼することから生まれる深い平安です。私たちが平和を保つことは、現実から目を背けることではありません。むしろ、争いに巻き込まれることなく、対話と赦しを選び、希望をもって行動するための霊的な力です。自らの内に守られた平和は、やがて言葉となり、態度となり、他者の心に届いていきます。
平和の実現のために出向いて行く：
平和は、ただ待っていれば自然に訪れるものではありません。神様から与えられる平和の恵みは、私たちを内に閉じこもらせるのではなく、他者のもとへと送り出す力となります。イエス・キリストご自身が、人々の苦しみや分断のただ中へと出向き、言葉と行いをもって和解と希望をもたらされました。「出向いて行く」とは、遠くへ行くことだけを意味しません。身近な家庭や職場、地域社会の中で、対立や孤独、無関心の現実に目を向けることも含まれます。傷ついた人に寄り添い、対話を始め、赦しへの一歩を踏み出す――それらすべてが、平和を実現するための具体的な歩みです。私たちは、自分の力だけで平和を築くのではありません。神様の御計画であり賜物である平和を受け取り、それを携えて出向いて行くのです。恐れや不安があっても、主は「恐れるな」と言われ、私たちと共に歩んでくださいます。
アシジの聖フランシスコの足跡に従って：
アシジの聖フランシスコは、福音を生きることを何よりも大切にし、平和と和解のために人々のもとへ出向いて行った聖人でした。フランシスコは、言葉だけでなく、生き方そのものを通して「主の平和」を告げ知らせました。その足跡は、争いや分断に満ちた現代に生きる私たちにとっても、なお新しく、力強い導きとなっています。聖フランシスコの帰天800周年という節目は、過去を懐かしむための記念ではありません。それは、聖人が示した福音的な生き方を、今日、ここで、私たち自身がどのように生き直すかを問いかける招きです。今年、世界中のフランシスコ会の兄弟姉妹は、「聖フランシスコは今も生きている」、「フランシスコ平和の人、すべての人の兄弟」などといったテーマのもと、フランシスコの生活を現代に再現することを目指しています。現代に生きる私たちにこそ、聖フランシスコの使命が託されています。貧しい人、小さくされた人、傷ついた被造物のもとへ出向き、受け入れ、支え、平和を築く――その歩みは、今、私たちに委ねられています。フランシスコが生涯を通して大切にしたのは、神への完全な信頼と、すべての被造物を兄弟姉妹として受け入れる心でした。その霊性に倣うとき、私たちもまた、神様の平和の道具として用いられていくのです。
新年の決意：
「平和を実現する人々は、幸いである。その人たちは神の子と呼ばれる。」（マタイ5・9）このイエスの言葉が、私たちの励ましとなりますように。受け入れ合い、支え合う共同体として育まれた信頼と連帯を力に、私たちは日常の場へと出向いて行きます。家庭で、職場で、地域で、小さな対話と和解を積み重ねること――それこそが、武装しない平和への具体的な一歩です。そのために、私たちは毎回ミサの最後に、「感謝の祭儀を終わります。行きましょう、主の平和のうちに」と派遣されるのです。今年、私たちの共同体が、内に閉じることなく、平和のために遣わされる教会として歩んでいくことができますように。
A Church Community That Goes Forth for the Realization of Peace -From a Community that Accepts and Supports One Another to a Community That Is Sent Forth.-

In 2025, together with the Church throughout the world, we celebrated the Holy Jubilee Year and renewed our journey under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” Throughout the year, we learned how to live as pilgrims who carry hope and bring hope to others, we also made our pilgrimage as a community. What we learned through this year-long journey is that a “pilgrim is not one who stands still, but one who continues to walk toward the destination—not remaining in a place of comfort, but moving forward on the road while carrying hope”.
Moreover, 2025 marked a special year: the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi’s composition of the Canticle of the Creatures (The Canticle of the Sun). We learned that this canticle is not only a hymn of praise for creation, but also a song that proclaims a spirituality of reconciliation and peace. It was a year to deepen the spirit of Saint Francis and to re-examine our own attitude toward nature. Saint Francis sings of those who “pardon” as blessed. This shows us that peace does not arise naturally on its own but is realized through the courageous act of stepping into relationships and choosing reconciliation. Francis himself did not hesitate to go forth to those who were hostile or of different cultures, living as an instrument of peace.
As I was reflecting on how our Parish should live considering the graces of the Holy Year, I was inspired by the pilgrim’s attitude of “always walking with trust in God.” Until now, we cherished and lived out the slogan “An open community that accepts and supports one another.” Yet, in the light of Christ’s words, “Go into all the world,” and responding to his call to be sent forth, we now wish to renew our slogan as “A community that goes forth for the realization of peace,” becoming a community sent by Christ.
As a community that accepts and supports one another, we have come to realize that respecting each other’s differences and living together while carrying one another’s weaknesses is itself the foundation of the Church. In this way, we have healed our community from within and nurtured trust and communion. Now is the time to open outward the communion that has been built within and to become a Church that works for peace. This new slogan does not deny our past journey of mutual acceptance and support. Rather, it shows that this journey has matured and is now entering a stage where it bears fruit as mission.
As the Pope has reminded us through the Holy Year, hope does not mean turning our eyes away from reality; it is the strength to walk in trust in God in the very midst of difficulties. In a contemporary society marked by division, conflict, and anxiety, we believe that it is God’s will for us to become a presence that goes forth to people carrying peace.
Peace is God’s plan and God’s gift.
Peace is not merely an ideal or a goal that human effort alone can produce. Scripture tells us that God himself is “the God of peace” (Romans 15:33) and that he has a plan to lead the world and humanity toward peace. At the birth of Jesus Christ, the angels proclaimed, “Peace on earth” (Luke 2:14). This was a sign that God, through his love, desires to bring reconciliation and peace both between human beings and between God and humanity. At the same time, peace is a gift from God. The risen Jesus said to his disciples, “Peace be with you,” and gave them his own peace (John 20:19). This peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it includes an inner serenity that allows us to live in trust in God even amid hardship. Yet this gift is not meant to be received and kept only for ourselves. Those who have received God’s peace are invited to live it, practice it, and share it. Choosing forgiveness, valuing dialogue, and going forth to those who suffer—these are concrete ways of cooperating in God’s plan and making the gift of peace tangible in this world. Peace is God’s plan, and it is also God’s gift that spreads through us. In his Message for the 59th World Day of Peace, entitled “Peace Be with You All,” Pope Leo XIV calls the modern world to a change of direction: Towards an “unarmed and disarming” peace.
The Need to have Peace within in Order to Give Peace
In his Message for the World Day of Peace 2026, Pope Leo XIV quotes Saint Augustine: “If you wish to draw others to peace, first have it yourselves; be steadfast in peace yourselves. To inflame others, you must have the flame burning within.” Peace is a grace that must first be kept within us before it can be given to others. When our hearts are disturbed and filled with anxiety or anger, we cannot truly share peace. Therefore, to live our mission of giving peace, we must remain each day in the peace that God gives us. Jesus Christ said, “I give you my peace” (John 14:27). This peace is not something we feel only when circumstances are favourable; it is a deep serenity born of trusting God even in the midst of difficulty and conflict. Keeping peace does not mean turning away from reality. Rather, it is a spiritual strength that enables us to choose dialogue and forgiveness, to act with hope without being drawn into conflict. Peace safeguarded within us eventually becomes words, attitudes, and actions that reach the hearts of others.
Going Forth for the Realization of Peace
Peace does not come naturally if we simply wait for it. The gift of peace given by God does not close us in on ourselves; it becomes a force that sends us forth to others. Jesus Christ himself went out into the midst of human suffering and division, bringing reconciliation and hope through both word and deed. “Going forth” does not mean only traveling far away. It also includes facing the realities of conflict, loneliness, and indifference within our own families, workplaces, and local communities. Standing beside those who are wounded, beginning dialogue, and taking a step toward forgiveness—these are all concrete steps toward the realization of peace. We do not build peace by our own strength alone. We receive the peace that is God’s plan and gift, and we carry it with us as we go forth. Even when we feel fear or anxiety, the Lord says to us, “Do not be afraid,” and walks with us.
Following in the Footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi
Saint Francis of Assisi was a saint who cherished living the Gospel above all else and went forth to people for the sake of peace and reconciliation. Through his very way of life—not only through words—Francis proclaimed, “the peace of the Lord.” His footsteps remain a fresh and powerful guide for us who live in a world filled with conflict and division. The 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’s death is not simply an occasion to look back with nostalgia. It is an invitation to ask how we ourselves will live anew, here and now; the Gospel way of life he showed us. This year, Franciscan brothers and sisters around the world are striving to re-live Francis’s way of life today under the themes “Saint Francis Is Alive, Francis, man of peace, brother of all” etc. It is to us, who live in the present age, that the mission of Saint Francis is entrusted. Going forth to the poor, the marginalized, and wounded creation; accepting, supporting, and building peace—this journey has now been entrusted to us. What Francis valued throughout his life was complete trust in God and a heart that embraced all creation as brothers and sisters. When we follow this spirituality, we too are made instruments of God’s peace.
A Resolution for the New Year
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9). May these words of Jesus encourage us. Drawing strength from the trust and solidarity nurtured as a community that accepts and supports one another, we go forth into our daily lives—into our families, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Building peace through small acts of dialogue and reconciliation—this is a concrete step toward an unarmed peace. That is why, at the end of every Mass, we are sent forth with the words: “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.” May this year be one in which our community does not turn inward but walks forward as a Church sent forth for the realization of peace.
